In my last blog post I helped establish for you that you MUST have a team in order to make weight loss a SUCCESS for YOU. Now this week, I’m going to introduce you to your first two teammates.

Medical Teammate

First and foremost, you need to consult your physician before you pursue any new diet or exercise regimen. Your medical teammate will be important at the beginning as they give you permission to exert yourself. They will also be important as you exercise because you will experience some aches and pains.

Here are a couple tips I want you to remember when finding medical teammates.

  • You need to get permission from a medical teammate before you begin any exercise or diet regimen
  • You need to talk to your medical teammate concerning your goals

I say this because quite often when you see your doctor about some ache brought on by exercise, your doctor is going to say, “Well, stop doing what you’re doing and it won’t hurt anymore.” That is unacceptable if you’re going to become healthy long-term. And your doctor will understand when you explain and be able to work from your goals, rather than contrary to them.

Working out will naturally cause your muscles and joints to hurt. Especially if you are overweight. But you CAN work through that! You need to know if you have a true injury, or if the pain is going to go away as you get in shape and lose weight. And your medical teammates will help you with that.

The second part of your team is…

Workout Teammates

Of course you need a workout teammate! Someone who will go with you to the gym and count reps with you, or someone who will come over and do an exercise DVD with you. Loafing is incredibly easy if you don’t have a steady workout partner. Your body does NOT want to work as hard as you need it to, and your mind is not always going to be your friend. You need someone to KEEP you exercising!

When it comes to working out, it’s best if you have three types of teammates:

  • You need teammates who are more advanced than you so they can INSPIRE you to improve
  • You need teammates who are at your level so they can keep you ACCOUNTABLE
  • You need teammates who are not yet at your level so that you can REACH OUT and cement your weight loss goals

I think it’s very important to have someone who is more experienced and knowledgeable than you at a particular thing, who really can show you how to eat correctly and how to work out correctly. You also need someone at your level so they can keep you accountable. You may find it strange, but I believe you also need to have someone who’s a little behind you that you can bring along on your journey. That’s because, as you learn about health and wellness and nutrition and exercise, these things will become even more solidified in your mind as you coach others.

And there you have it–the first two important teammates you will need to build up an INVINCIBLE weight loss team perfect for YOU. I’ll be here next week to tell you the next three important teammates to join you!
