Pete Thomas, NBC’s Most Successful “Biggest Loser” Honored for Conquering Obesity
Local Resident Nominated for a Governor’s Fitness Award
LANSING, Mich.— After being a contestant on “The Biggest Loser”, Peter Thomas makes it his mission to help others become weight loss winners as well. Thomas is one of three individuals in the Conquering Obesity category, which honors individuals who have conquered obesity through dedication to physical activity and healthy eating. As an honoree, Thomas will attend the award’s gala event at Ford Field in Detroit on April 26 where the overall winner of the category will be announced. The Governor’s Fitness Awards serve as a platform for recognizing individuals, public officials and organizations that are committed to healthy living. For event reservations and information please visit michiganfitness.org/gfa.
Thomas’ commitment to healthy living began in November 2005 when he walked away from the finale of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” a winner and a loser. He won $100,000 for losing the most weight of all the contestants that season. What he lost was 185 pounds in only nine short months, most of which he lost at home after being “voted off” by the other contestants. At his largest, Thomas tipped the scales at over 416 lbs. As a child, Thomas never learned about nutrition and exercise. In his youth, he was often left alone or with his younger sister— forced to find food wherever he could.
“Being on ‘The Biggest Loser’ really saved my life,” Thomas says, “the knowledge I gained revolutionized the way I think, eat and exercise.”
More than five years after being voted off the show, Thomas continues to maintain his weight-loss and he’s also inspiring others to become “Biggest Losers.” Since 2007, hundreds of individuals have lost thousands of combined pounds with his personally developed his nutrition and exercise program. As a full-time motivational speaker, teacher, author, corporate wellness consultant and spokesperson, Thomas now travels and spreads his ‘Winning Principles’ to organizations worldwide and via www.PeteThomas.com.
The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports and the Michigan Fitness Foundation envision a physically educated population with the knowledge and skills to enjoy a healthy, vigorous and safe lifestyle in communities designed to support physical activity.
